"And to think that they spin it as if they restored what others had distorted. Scary!"
So they feel distorting the distortion resolves any distortion... or something~! =D

the NWT
by trinity83 innumerous greek and biblical scholars have declared that the nwt is a poor and biased translation.. the late dr. walter martin observed that of the anonymous seven-member translation committee at least five had no training in greek: "these books possess a veneer of scholarship unrivaled for its daring and boldness in a field that all informed scholars know jehovah's witnesses are almost totally unprepared to venture into.
as a matter of fact, the authors have been able to uncover partially a carefully guarded watchtower secret; the names of five of the member of the new world translation committee.
not one of these five people has any training in greek...(or hebrew).. dr. julius mantey a leading greek scholar in the world stated: "i have never read any new testament so badly translated as the kingdom interlinear translation of the greek scriptures.

Hey Gretchen,
So funny, I just recently picked up the Stephen Donaldson series of Thomas Covenent the Unbeliever and am reading them again after 25 years. I have re-read the Dune series a few times. Along with that I'm reading Light, Coming Back by Ann Wadsworth, Women's Rituals by Barbara Walker, and The Best Short Stories of Leslea Newman.
Nothing like a good book!

Sweet~! I became a member of a SRD dedication forum that's pretty cool:

Sometimes my links don't work without copying and pasting them, though...
If you get bored, have a glance (though it seems you have so much to read you couldn't get bored~!).

Millions Now Living..., Way to Paradise; any way to find copies/prints?
by The Leological One ini have recently been blessed with my wife (currently df'd jw) starting to look into some things, and she's read the book "questions for jehovah's witnesses" by the cetners.
she still feels she needs to see something she feels is more reliable for dates such as the 1925 patriarchs, etc, and when i was doing research, i noticed the best quotes to show seem to be from books such as the millions now living will never die and the way to paradise, but they're really old, and i couldn't find any available on e-bay or as reprints on cds on my search.
does anybody know a way to get ahold of these books?

Leonard, has your wife read Crisis Of Conscience? I just finished it and should you want it, I can mail it to you.
Thanks fairchild~! I may PM you about it, though if I can find one already in my area I might just get it. The only JW books I've found have been at a Christian bookstore that doesn't carry that one, though. I have Reasoning from the Scriptures with JW's and I think one by Ronald Bowman, though I'm not sure that's the author.
Thanks again, and also to Flash and Garybuss~!

God's little inconsistencies
by cheeseman inwhat's the thing that really gets your goat?
for me it's god allowing incest as a means of filling the earth.
i mean, if it was good enough for them.....

I may actually have to look up the scripture relating to Lot, but I don't know that just because things happened in the Bible means that everything that happened was something God was telling people to do. Other than that, the situation was a very long time ago. I don't know when the law came about concerning incest, but in the earliest stages of Bible history, i.e. starting off with Adam and Eve, some incest was absolutely necessary up to a point.
I may be mistaken but think I remember reading that gene pools have gotten more polluted over a long period of time and may have been pure enough back then to avoid posing so much of a major problem re birth defects, etc... Just my thoughts, though admittedly I may not have the science or exact context down and may change my view in light of more thorough info.

Too busy with school and work to read anything much other than some posts on this and another forum, but when I get time again, I'm going to get back into:
the Runes of the Earth by Stephen R. Donaldson.
I'm not sure this will match his past works of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever, but being the 3rd trilogy of one of the best, IMO, fantasy epics, I'm definitely going to give it a go~!

I've avoided the elders so far...but could this all change on SATURDAY?
by logansrun inwell, it has been almost three years since i silently and dramatically vanished from the world of the watchtower.
moving an hour away from my congregation's territory and not answering phone calls was all i needed to avoid having to wear the letter "a" on my chest.
but, that could all change this saturday.

Ugh, I can't imagine attending a JW gathering, to be honest. If it were me, I'd probably just say goodbye the day after the going away party or something. Good luck!
Since I'm the non-JW in my marriage, I can only say it sounds about like you guys know exactly what the limits of what an elder can do at a party would be, but I'm also wondering if Logansrun has a lot potentially at stake if he gets more notice and possibly asked to come before a committee or something (Awesome moniker BTW! Now we need Zardoz and Soylent Green lol~!).
Just from my understanding, if there'd be a lot to lose by getting DF'd, I might avoid the situation, myself, but if it's not like you feel your entire family will reject you all the way, then maybe it'd seem more worth going... either way, best wishes, and hope you have fun if you go~!

The Watchtower, Scholar and Misrepresentation of Source References
by AlanF inour resident pretend-jw-scholar who calls himself "scholar" enjoys justifying lying and misrepresentation by the watchtower society and himself.
the society, out of one side of its collective mouth, recommends not misrepresenting source references, yet out of the other side, goes ahead and does so without hesitation whenever it is convenient.
the society understands that unfair quoting is dishonest.

When this reader decides that the information is factual, based on a misquote (there can be NO other way to view this; Thiele does does does trust Ptolemy) and that Thiele does not regard Ptolemy as accurate, this is good in your eyes, Scholar???
Scholar, does Thiele believe in Ptolemy's accuracy or NOT?
I can have some amount of empathy for scholar, being that I've debated on net boards my views on God, creation, the Bible, etc. and been either the only one or maybe one of 2-3 at most others that shared my views and had about an impossible time trying to keep up with responses by 10-20 others, and I've felt no matter what I wrote it wouldn't make any difference due to the other view having so many adherents...
BUT it does seem Scholar is really trying hard to defend some things that have been demonstrated to be untrue to probably any neutral reader. Scholar, you might have to go through some things like I have, having to wonder sometimes if indeed what evidence I've seen proves the other side's point, and like me, if you sincerely look into these matters and honestly come out knowing for certain your views were correct, then that would only strengthen your faith in the WT.
Otherwise, you're doing the opposite of making the WT seem defensible via trying to defend things already hopelessly proven wrong and likely strengthening the view that WT proponents will say almost anything to uphold the WT as being God's reliable source of information; I might relent on one point you made about the ID movement just getting started during the time that Creator book came out, though I'm not a JW (married to one) and so don't know much about the book or exactly when major ID proponents started coming to the forefront with their views.

vivid memory with confusing contradiction...
by zanex ini had a very clear dream the other night and it continues to play itself out in my mind again and again...i can recall with sharp clarity years ago when i was 12 and very much impressed with my father...he turned to me and said something i will never forget...i had asked him what he wanted...just in general and he told me that he wanted "more" he was not real clear as to what the "more" was and at the time i didnt understand but now, pushing 30, i know what he meant by that.
at the same time tho he is a jw elder and locked into a box that will never allow him to achieve the ultimate fruition of what he wants.
as a member of that org the one thing that has always set him apart as a person is the one thing that he will never be allowed to cultivate...the desire to learn more and to be set apart by that study and wisdom is something that he has always thrived on so it seems rather odd to me that he would do something so contradictory to who he is as a person...lol.

hey leo....how did the test go
Sorry; just saw this thread again before logging off soon for the night. I think it went pretty well, but in that class, some things can be a little decieving when it comes time to get the papers handed back!
Hope your night's going great as well as for some different dreams for Zanex~!
